Agloco….

paul.e.dearment.jr| November 29, 2006 8:04 am

Running across the web produces some interesting finds thanks to my good friend Stumbleupon.(while getting ready to write this, I noticed from a feedreader popup that Jeff has once again got the legs up on me and posted this first…..almost…almost….one day I will post before Jeff…..)

Agloco seems almost too good to be true, but hey, I’m a sucker for almost impossible/hopeless dreams. a way to earn “free” money.(I say “free” because you earn shares in the company with the money, not the acutall money itself…..read all of the site and you’ll see what I mean)

The premise behind Agloco is that you run their program on your computer which displays text ads in a toolbar. Harmless enough, right? Considering that in order to get those text ads(and in turn your money), you have to

  1. Have the toolbar running on the screen. Were not talking running and minimized, were talking actually taking up screen space
  2. You have to agree to let Agloco monitor your surfing habits

The good news is that you can turn off the monitoring(and text ads(and money…)) with a simple click of the button to minimize the toolbar to the bottom of the computer. So yes, its spys on what sites you go to, but it is a spyware that you can turn off, and that ends up sending money your way….so is this friendly spyware?(of course, best practice is to always keep your antivirus and antispyware programs fully up to date)

Hey, if I can get paid to surf the web, why not? Its not like I am trying to hide the sites I surf to anyways. So I say, I’m gonna give it a try. If you want to give it a try to, then follow the link below.

New Domain…part 2

paul.e.dearment.jr| November 27, 2006 11:33 pm

I was looking over my traffic logs recently, and I have been receiving a large amount of traffic to two particular segments of my website. The section labeled tips and tricks was receiving a ton of hits as as my general sections of the website. So with that, I decided that I needed to separate the two from one another. So now, the new domain of armentpau.com has been born. From now on, all the items that would’ve gone underneath Tips & Tricks will now appear on armentpau.com

So no, it won’t help you in deciding what to wear to work, or what perfume to wear. But maybe, hopefully, there is something that can be useful found on the site. If anything, it will serve as a place to save all of my documentation just for myself. Ah. The ease of websites!

Notebook Hardware Control

paul.e.dearment.jr| November 9, 2006 6:49 pm

Do you use a laptop computer? If so, does your battery need some extra life? Well if you are looking to extend your time a little bit, then you might want to check out this program that I came across recently called Notebook Hardware Control. You can set your power properties based on if you are on AC or on battery. Why is this useful? Doesn’t microsoft include something to adjust that automatically for you? The speed of the processor that is. Well…yes….yes they do. But. I have noticed that when using NHC and forcing it to go a certain speed, I can get more battery life out of it. When your on battery, why do you need to be at full speed? Why not half speed? That should run more than fast enough for most everyday activities(of course you can set it to run full power if you wanted…..but most people probably wouldn’t need that). So with NHC, you have settings called MAX BATTERY, MAX PERFORMANCE, BATTERY OPTIMIZED and DYNAMIC SWITCHING. When on AC, Dynamic Switching allows the computer to adjust the speed of the processor based on the load to the computer dynamically. Just running word? Run at a low speed. Playing a game? Run at high speed. Its actually pretty good on detecting which speed it needs. Max Battery sends the processor into the lowest power mode available. This allows you to use the least amount of power, but as each processor is different, your performance will change. I find with my laptop that its lowest setting(1 GHZ) is more than enough to run everything that I need to run. Since it never is allowed to go at full speed, the processor can sometimes peg out at 100%, but even if it does, it will never go above the speed its set to! Battery Optimized I really don’t know what it does, but Max Performance, it allows you to keep the processor running as fast as it can all the time, no matter the load on it. Talk about a heat producer and a waster of energy! This is good if you know that you will need the max performance frequently, other than that, I don’t know why you would want it.

So go check it out. NHC is one awesome piece of software

PS3 + Crazy jobless people = good?

paul.e.dearment.jr| 5:46 am

I never thought people could be so crazy, as to start forming lines now for a PS3! The story can be found here: Article

This is my question. Why? I understand the cell processor, the BLUE-RAY DVD system, but why spend 600 dollars on a gaming console. I thought when the original X-BOX came out that it was ridiculously expensive, but after seeing the X-BOX360 and the Playstation 3, I find it hard to justify getting one of those new systems. And all this money is for….a more eye candy experience while playing games?

Mostly.

I understand that with the inclusion of the cell processor it is now possible to make games more responsive than before, but does it really add that much? I guess I will have to wait and see, considering how few demos of it I have seen so far.

Anyways, the jury is still out on this one. But I think that anyone with enough time on their hands to sit around for 9 days outside a store should be checked to make sure they have a job. I think some of them may be on the missing person’s report at work for about nine days—you know how fanboys are at times—forgetting everything else for the sake of the game.::sigh::

Crazy Firefox….

paul.e.dearment.jr| November 7, 2006 6:00 pm

I was working on my website today and I noticed an annoying bug(probably feature) that exists in firefox 2.0. What is it? One the left hand side I have the “song of the moment” thing from radio.blog.club. Well. If you are in IE6 or IE7, and you scroll down the page, or minimize the window—the song still plays. Well, if you are in firefox 2.0, it so kindly kills the music when that flash object is no longer in the viewing area. Kinda annoying if you ask me. As soon as I find out why, I will rant about it on here.

Ah, how I love random rants!

EDIT: From reading around on various sites, it appears to be a “feature” built either into flash or mozilla firefox. No one has been able to tell which yet. Still looking though.
